On Monday evening, Macclesfield Town Council formally co-opted Labour party member Mike Hutchison to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Dominic Sexton for one of the two the West & Ivy ward seats.
In a secret ballot of the town council members Mike defeated the Conservative candidate for West and Ivy ward in 2019, Adam Schofield and David Mayers, who stood for the Green Party in Broken Cross and Upton ward at last May’s local elections.
Mike has lived in Macclesfield for 37 years, working for 35 of them as a teacher, firstly at Fallibroome High School and then Tytherington High School, retiring in 2018. He is familiar with the West & Ivy ward, hiving lived in the area for nearly a decade.
On his co-option Mike said, ‘’I am looking forward to working with the community and other councillors to make a positive difference to people’s lives in the ward. I hope to build strong relationships and to encourage and support local residents to make their views known.’’
Councillor Alift Harewood MBE, fellow Town Councillor for the West & Ivy ward said, ‘’Nick Mannion and I are pleased to welcome Mike to the West & Ivy team, and I am sure he will help us in our work for ALL the residents and businesses in the ward.’’
