Two local men from East Cheshire, Peter Davies, aged 100 and Geoffrey Budenberg, aged 89 have been recognised for their remarkable lives and their contribution to society.
Peter was nominated for his extraordinary profession, as an RAF pilot in WWII; Geoffrey has been recognised for his contribution in the industrial manufacturing and machinery industry.
Home care company, Home Instead was inspired to launch the Purple Plaque campaign to commemorate the inspiring stories they have heard about older people’s incredible lives and to ensure that these stories don’t get forgotten. The campaign, Purple Plaque awarded to recognise outstanding individuals with the plaques being placed next to English Heritage plaques, honouring historical figures.
Peter’s plaque has been placed next to Captain R. F. Scott, Royal Navy officer and Antarctic explorer. As a Pilot, Peter was pleased to know that his plaque has been positioned next to the great Royal Navy officer who sacrificed a lot for his country.
Geoffrey’s plaque is located next to James Horsfall who profoundly influenced the progress of the Industrial Revolution. Like James, Geoffrey has made a significant impact in the industrial manufacturing industry.
Rajan Panesar, Managing Director of Home instead East Cheshire says: “We are delighted to have both Peter and Geoffrey nominated for awards. Both have phenomenal stories; it has been a pleasure to revisit them through their memories”.
Peter says: “Receiving this plaque means a great deal to me. I am honoured that my hard work as a Pilot during WW2 has been acknowledged.”
Geoffrey said: “I feel very blessed to have been nominated for the award. Knowing that my efforts have been recognised is a lovely thing”.
