Cheshire-based Pott Shrigley Church School has increased its focus on mindfulness to help both those in attendance and home-schooling during the most recent lockdown.
Keyworker and other children in school are benefitting from twice-weekly specialist yoga sessions, gardening, mindfulness activities including colouring, lego sessions and an abundance of fresh air with whole afternoon sessions of P.E. and nature study in the local environment. Those working at home are encouraged to join in via the provision of recorded yoga sessions and a weekly walking challenge to promote regular physical activity for the whole family.
Head teacher Joanne Bromley commented ‘We’re conscious that those children learning at home are spending more time on screens than ever so in a bid to alleviate this we’re working with parents to ensure children stay active. Friday afternoons at Pott Shrigley have always seen us learning away from our desks – be that at Forest School, Substation climbing wall, farm visits or exploring the Cheshire Peak District as we know first-hand the benefits for children and staff alike.’
