MP OUTLINES FREE GOVERNMENT SUPPORT FOR LOCAL FIRMS

Free Government support for exporters in Eddisbury will be outlined to businesses by local MP Edward Timpson, to help them take advantage of international opportunities, and to tap into the huge global demand for British products.

By organising a series of events throughout 2021, Mr Timpson is helping businesses in his constituency to start or grow international sales, and showcase the best of British goods.

Exports are equivalent to nearly a third of the national income, and UK is the fifth biggest exporter in the world.  Agreements have been reached with 67 nations plus the European Union, covering £891 billion in trade. Mr Timpson is determined to help local companies thrive in the high growth markets of the future, create high quality jobs and help the local area recover after the Covid pandemic.

The latest research shows exports support 6.5 million jobs across the UK, 74 per cent of which are outside London. The research estimates jobs directly and indirectly supported by exports pay around 7 per cent more than the national median, with the Office for National Statistics estimating that goods-exporting businesses are also 21 per cent more productive.

Edward Timpson CBE MP is working with the Department for International Trade (DIT)as part of the Parliamentary Export Programme, to help local businesses access the free support they need to boost their exporting potential, and understand the effects of trade agreements and how to benefit from them.

These sessions will provide Eddisbury businesses with an opportunity to hear speakers from the Department for International Trade, an experienced local exporter, and a bank, all detailing the support available for businesses to expand their business overseas.

Commenting on the Parliamentary Export Programme, Edward Timpson said:

"Helping local businesses recover from the pandemic is one of my top priorities. That's why I'm delighted to be hosting events that can protect jobs, and give businesses in my constituency access to information, advice and finance to sell internationally.

“The events I’m organising are free, and all businesses need to do is register online. Experts and experienced exporters will provide advice including on Government-supported working capital and the practicalities of post-Brexit trade.

“Whether a business is new to exporting, has exported in the past or is a current exporter, participating in the programme will equip them with the support and tools they need to begin or continue their exporting journey."

Mr Timpson is a founding member of the Parliamentary Export Programme, which selected MPs across parties to organise and chair virtual meetings with experts from business and the Government to support local businesses in their exporting journey.
