A new state-of-the-art expansion to East Cheshire NHS Trust’s Endoscopy and Radiology departments has officially opened at Macclesfield Hospital.
The opening was marked with an official ribbon cutting ceremony involving staff from both services and Chief Executive, Ged Murphy.
Following significant investment, the expansion and redesign of the endoscopy treatment unit (ETU) and reconfiguration of the existing radiography department will improve patient flow and experience.
The redesign has been built over two floors and includes an expanded ETU recovery area, two additional endoscopy treatment rooms and an additional MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) suite.
An MRI scan can be used to examine different parts of the body, including the brain and spinal cord, bones and joints, heart, and blood vessels as well as internal organs.
An endoscopy is a test to look inside your body using a long thin tube with a small camera inside. There are different types of endoscopies that look at different parts of the body and the type of endoscopy depends on a patient’s symptoms.
Vicky Bond, General Manager for Clinical Support Services at East Cheshire NHS Trust said:
“This development is a fantastic addition for patients at Macclesfield Hospital with state-of-the-art clinical areas to support patient treatment and care.
“The extension will support the reduction of waiting times in the endoscopy department, within a significantly improved environment for patients, whilst the new MRI scanner will help to improve radiology patient flow and experience.”
East Cheshire NHS Trust is the main provider of acute and community health services for people across East Cheshire. The Trust is based at Macclesfield District General Hospital, and also manages Congleton War Memorial Hospital and Knutsford and District Community Hospital.
