Northwich drug dealer to spend Christmas behind bars

A woman from Northwich is set to spend Christmas behind bars after she was caught transporting heroin and crack cocaine.

Rebecca Jones appeared at Chester Crown Court on Monday 20 December where she was sentenced to 40 months in prison.

The 25-year-old, of Lime Avenue, Weaverham, had earlier pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of class A drugs (heroin and crack cocaine).

Jones was originally arrested on New Year’s Eve after officers stopped a Peugeot 307 on Northwich Road, Dutton, after receiving intelligence about the car.

Jones, who was driving the car, and her passenger, 34-year-old Lynette Jade Thompson from Northwich, told the officers that they had been shopping in Liverpool.

The car was checked and both Jones and Thompson were detained in order to be searched.

The pair were taken to Northwich Police Station and searched, where officers discovered 120 wraps of heroin and 260 wraps of crack cocaine hidden in Thompson’s pants.

The total street value of the drugs they seized was approximately £3,600.

While Jones did not have any drugs in her possession, officer’s seized her mobile phone, on which they discovered a number of messages, that revealed she was allowing illegal drugs to be stored at and sold from her home in Northwich. 

She was subsequently charged with being concerned in the supply of class A drugs (heroin and crack cocaine).

Her co-defendant, Lynette Thompson, was charged with possession with intent to Supply Class A drugs and sentenced 30 months in prison at Chester Crown Court on Thursday 28 January after pleading guilty to the charge.

Detective Constable Claire Heatley said: “I welcome the sentences handed to Jones and Thompson and I hope that they act as a warning to others. 

“While Jones herself was not in possession of any drugs, based on the information we discovered on her phone it was clear that she was involved in the transportation and sale of heroin and crack cocaine which were destined for the streets of Northwich.

“Thankfully, as a result of the intelligence we gathered, we were able to seize a large quantity of class A drugs and two dealers are now behind bars.

“Removing those involved in drug dealing from our communities is of paramount importance as they blight our communities and cause untold damage to both those that use them and the wider society who suffer from the resulting crime.

“I hope that the sentences handed to Thompson and Jones reaffirms the message that drug dealing in Northwich and the wider Cheshire area will not be tolerated.”

Chief Inspector Gary Smith, of Northwich Local Policing Unit, said: “Illegal drugs have a hugely detrimental impact and we are committed to doing all we can to remove those involved in the supply of such drugs from our communities.

“Information from the public is vital in this this fight and I urge anyone with any information about suspected drug related activity in their community to get in touch.

“You will be listened to and we will investigate the matter.”
