Dedicated local domestic abuse charity My CWA, recently met with Macclesfield MP David Rutley, to highlight the important work it is doing to support individuals and families affected by domestic abuse in the community.
The charity provides a comprehensive range of services, including a 24-hour helpline, crisis accommodation, recovery programmes, practical support and behaviour change initiatives. Programmes such as Gateway are available, which is a seven-session therapeutic programme. Gateway provides information and guidance on the specifics of domestic abuse, focusing on women’s own experiences to discuss and develop their options in the future.
The charity currently operates 14 refuge properties for those individuals or families fleeing domestic abuse; three of which are based in the Macclesfield area. During the meeting, Rebecca Dunn, Accommodation Service Manager, highlighted to David the high demand on the accommodation, as each property typically has a 100% occupancy rate.
Tackling domestic abuse continues to remain a priority for the Cheshire constabulary and David was pleased to hear that the local Police provide a monthly session at My CWA. These sessions allow those affected by domestic abuse to build a relationship with officers in a safe and secure location.
Anyone affected by domestic abuse can call the 24-hour helpline on 0300 123 5101. For more information visit:
Rebecca Dunn said:
“Domestic abuse can impact anyone regardless of age, class, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, race or religion – and it can take many forms; physical, emotional, verbal, sexual and financial. Demand for our services in Macclesfield remains consistently high. While we aim to support as many people as possible through our refuge, we refuse to compromise on the quality our service. We uphold a gold standard across all our properties, and I am immensely proud of the quality of our accommodation.”
Speaking after the meeting, David said:
“I continue to support My CWA in their important work to provide support for families and individuals that have been victims of domestic abuse. It is clear that they offer a wide range of services and provide much-valued accommodation that is a vital support to those who are feeling threatened or unsafe. I would urge anyone in need of support to contact the dedicated and hard-working team at My CWA - they continue to play a vital role in our community.”
