Wrexham MP, Sarah Atherton, has brought together residents in her constituency with neighbouring MPs, local councillors and Wrexham County Borough Council representatives in a socially distanced outdoor meeting to highlight flood damage caused by Storm Christoph.
After hearing from many concerned constituents and seeing the flooding for herself, Sarah Atherton invited local councillor Mike Morris, and Streetscene Supervisor from Wrexham County Borough Council, Greg McArthur to meet with residents in Bowling Bank who have been impacted by the recent flooding. Residents discussed the clean-up effort and preventative measures with the Wrexham Council representatives.
Local resident David Brereton thanked the Council for visiting the Bowling Bank area:
“We are very pleased that Sarah was able to bring together the Streetscene Supervisor and councillors to come and visit Bowling Bank to see the flood damage. The storm has had some devastating effects, and it’s important that our representatives see the real impact on the ground.”
Alongside this is concern about the structural integrity of the Farndon Bridge, crossing the River Dee between Holt in Wrexham and Farndon in Cheshire. Sarah and Edward Timpson CBE, MP for Eddisbury, visited the site, inviting Farndon Councillor, Paul Roberts, and Karen Shore, Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Transport for Cheshire West and Chester Council, to highlight the impact the floods have had on the Holt Bridge.
Sarah Atherton MP said:
“I am very grateful to the council representatives from both Cheshire and Wrexham for meeting with me and my constituents to hear their concerns and see the damage first-hand.
“Today is an example of local representatives working together to help their constituents.
“We must learn lessons from the flooding we have seen recently, and I am looking forward to working with local authorities, the UK Government and the Welsh Government to deliver the support that my constituents need.”
Edward Timpson CBE MP added:
“On recent visits across Eddisbury, including here in Farndon, I’ve seen first-hand the serious impact that the significant flooding has had on local residents and businesses. The ongoing efforts by local agencies to assist the affected areas are much needed and appreciated.
“It has also brought into sharper focus the requirement to plan for more preventative measures to be put in place to help make Cheshire more resilient to future flooding.
“I will continue to work closely with fellow MPs, Cheshire councils, the Environment Agency, the River & Canal Trust, water companies and others to help ensure that this happens.”.
