Partnership working and community outreach is at the heart of the King’s School’s ‘Reaching Out’ 2023 report.
It was at the top of the agenda when Macclesfield MP, David Rutley met with Jason Slack, Head of the King’s School.
Since its creation over 500 years ago, King’s School has been committed to supporting not only their students and families but also the wider community. When Coronavirus hit in 2020 the school had to withdraw a lot of its outreach, charity and community programmes, however, with restrictions having ceased, the school has now published their 2023 ‘Reaching Out’ programme.
The programme summarises the School's approach to local partnership working, community work, local economic impact and how the School supports the arts, wider education and the green agenda. Working closely with around 60 organisations, the school has enabled their facilities to be used by groups such as Cheshire Police, the Samaritans, England Netball and multiple local sports clubs either free or at heavily discounted rates.
During the build and relocation to their new 80-acre campus in 2020, sustainability was also at the top the agenda. To offset their carbon footprint and to give back to the community, 800 new trees were planted before the school opened, with a further 1200 planted since opening. The school has also prioritised recyclable packaging of their newsletters, CO2 reduction through the use of solar panels and the use of over 1,000 LED lights in the buildings.
King’s School are also committed to supporting charities and across the 2021/22 school year, pupils raised £31,700 for local, national and international charities, such as East Cheshire Hospice, the Royal British Legion and Unicef. Wellbeing and positive mental health continues to be a priority for the school, with staff and pupils hosting wellbeing workshops for their parents on a range of important issues, such as the signs and treatments for common mental health issues.
The school continues to work closely with other schools as part of their outreach programme and is currently looking forward to hosting the Bollington Swimming Gala, in which 12 schools from the local area will attend King’s School for the gala.

Speaking after the meeting David said:
“It is great to see the work the King’s School is doing as part of its outreach programme to link up with charities and local organisations, to develop meaningful relationships through sharing facilities and raising important funds. I wish all the schools well as they compete in the upcoming swimming gala – I look forward to seeing the results!”
