Treacle Market 2021

It has been a very long three months since Treacle last traded before Christmas, but the organisers have decided to hold back for March and not deliver an essentials only market as they could have done under the current restrictions.

‘It just feels too premature’ explained Jane Munro ‘Treacle organiser. ‘We would like to see the roll out of the vaccine reaching more people and Covid numbers fall further’.

With that in mind they hope to be back on the streets delivering a more modest Treacle Market on Sunday 25th April building the market further over the following months. Treacle Market plans to echo the Governments Road Map out of Covid and continue as it did last year to proceed cautiously and responsibly with their markets . They are mindful plans could change if the the public health situation does.

They delivered a series small ‘Lock down larders’ last year and were overwhelmed by the positive response from people who not only valued the opportunity to buy the goods at the market but to engage (at a distance) with traders and friendly faces when many were so socially isolated. All done with stringent covid measures in place in the open air environment.

The market will continue to be guided by the Cheshire East Risk Assessor and to take necessary steps to ensure that the market is a safe place to shop and engage with the town’s community as we all take steps to emerge from Covid. Importantly it will provide many small traders with a much need opportunity to do some business in what has been a terrible year for them financially. Treacle organiser Jane Munro hopes it will be a chance for people to continue to support local businesses that will be open as well.

‘We are all too aware of the profound impact of Covid on our town centre and are keen to remind people of another reason to shop there, peel away from online shopping and spend their money in their locale and help the town get back on it’s feet’.

They hope that locals will come along and show their support and behave as responsibly as they did at the markets before Christmas and to remind themselves of the big hearted Macclesfield community they are a part of.
