Detectives investigating a serious collision in Winsford have charged two men in relation to the incident.
At around 12.07 am on Thursday 1st January, officers were made aware of serious collision on High Street, Winsford, at the junction of Collingham Way.
Officers attended the scene and found that the pedestrian had been hit by a blue Volkswagen Eos which failed to stop at the scene.
The pedestrian, a 62-year-old local man, sustained serious injuries to his legs and was subsequently taken to North Staffordshire Hospital, where he remains at this time. His injuries are described as life changing.
Following enquiries, two men have since been arrested and charged in relation to the collision. The vehicle involved in the incident has also been recovered from the Fenton area of Stoke-on-Trent.
Anthony Abbott, 45, of Plantagenet Close in Winsford, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop following a collision, failing to report a collision, committing a series of acts with intent to pervert the course of justice and possession of a weapon in a private place.
Anthony Cornwell, 41, Tyson Green, Bentilee, Stoke-on-Trent, has been charged with committing a series of acts with intent to pervert the course of justice.
Both men appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Monday 5 January where they were remanded in custody, they are next set to appear at Chester Crown Court on Monday 2nd February 2026.
A 34-year-old woman from Cannock was also arrested on suspicion of committing a series of acts with intent to pervert the course of justice in relation to the incident. She has since been released on conditional bail.
