Congleton Switch-On Success

The town centre was packed on Friday 25 November as Congleton’s Christmas lights were switched on.

Thousands turned out to enjoy the festive atmosphere, entertainment, lantern parade, Santa, stalls, real reindeer and much more. Event organisers Congleton Town Council and Congleton Community Projects were delighted with the crowds who flocked to support the popular event.

Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Margaret Gartside said: “It was a huge honour and privilege to take part in such a wonderful community event. The evening was full of fun and Christmas cheer. There was something for everyone with a full programme of live entertainment and free activities for families in the town hall. It was heart-warming to see so many happy faces and friends and family coming together to celebrate the start of the festive season. There was a big cheer from the crowds as the lights were turned on by Father Christmas & and his little helper Denys Knishchuk (5) a Ukrainian guest staying in Congleton. Denys, accompanied by his mum Oksana, thoroughly enjoyed his Santa sleigh ride and going onto the stage.”

The main stage was as popular as ever with talented local acts entertaining the crowds. The town centre was brimming with 26 stalls comprising – independent local crafters, food and drink traders and community groups raising funds for good causes.”

Mark’s Event’s, co-ordinated the children’s activities in the Town Hall. Mark Bailey, the Town Council’s Commercial Partner said: “I was so impressed with all the children who queued patiently to visit Santa in his grotto. We made sure all 225 of them took home a free chocolate gift. The Town Hall looked magical, adorned with beautiful decorations and lit green for the occasion.”

Congleton Town Council wish to offer a massive thank you to everyone who helped to make the evening such a tremendous success – all the volunteers, performers, contractors, lantern-makers, stall holders, businesses and community groups and everyone who came along to support the annual event.
