Detectives have launched an investigation following a burglary at a second store in Northwich town centre.
At around 6am on Thursday 11 May, police were called to reports that the front door had been damaged at WH Smiths on Witton Street.
Officers attended the scene and found there had been a burglary at the store and approximately £2,000 worth of cigarettes had been stolen.
Following initial enquires, officers have established that the incident occurred at 2.50am on 11 May and involved two offenders.
The pair left the store on foot, walking towards Iceland. Both offenders were wearing dark clothing and one of them was wearing a back pack.
The incident is being linked to a burglary at Boots which occurred in the early hours of Monday 9 May.
Detective Constable Claire Heatley, who is leading both investigations said:
“This is the second incident in the town centre in recent days and I understand the concern it is likely to cause, and I would like to reassure local businesses that we are doing all we can to identify the people responsible.
“Patrols have been stepped up in the area and as part of the investigation we’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the offence or seen anything suspicious in the area.
“We’re also urging other businesses in the area to check their CCTV footage to see if there is anything which may aid our investigation.
“I would urge anyone with any information, no matter how small to contact the team here in Northwich on 101 quoting IML 1544481.”
