Musica Nova’s new season opens at All Saints' Church, Cheadle Hulme on Saturday 27th September.
The concert begins with Rossini’s lively Overture to the comic opera Il Signor Bruschino. Full of mischief, the Overture sets the stage for the opera’s farcical plot.
Next in the programme is Dvořák’s Czech Suite, an enchanting celebration of Czech folk spirit. Composed in 1879, it blends lyrical melodies with rustic dance rhythms across five movements. From the gentle pastoral opening to the boisterous finale, the suite captures the warmth, colour and vitality of Czech musical traditions.
The concert finale is Schubert’s Symphony No. 6. Often called the ‘Little C Major’ to distinguish it from his later Ninth Symphony, it shows Schubert experimenting with symphonic form while drawing inspiration from Haydn, Mozart and Rossini. The work is full of lyrical charm, rhythmic vitality and playful orchestral colour.
The concert is directed by Jem Bradley and takes place at All Saints’ Church, Church Road, Cheadle Hulme, SK8 7JL on Saturday 27th September at 7:30pm.
