North West Academies Trust has launched a Virtual Summer School packed with sports and activities to keep children entertained during the holidays.
The Trust, which runs eight schools across Cheshire and Shropshire, has drawn on their lockdown experience to bring together video-based projects and challenges at the touch of a button.
Pupils can access daily PE challenges, stories read by their teachers, art tutorials, music, science experiments amid a kaleidoscope of fun on a brand new website: https://sites.google.com/northwestacademies.co.uk/nwatsummerschool
Steve Docking, CEO of North West Academies Trust (NWAT), said: “Our schools have put a huge amount of effort into home schooling and staying in contact with all our children, and we wanted to make it possible for all children to access some of the activities.
“Parents and children have responded really well to the online learning platforms we set up during lockdown, and daily videos from staff are a lovely way to demonstrate specific lessons, read bedtime stories, show experiments and even have a joke together!
"We have loved seeing what the children have been up to at home and we’d like that to continue over the summer to keep children active and learning.”
NWAT runs Delamere Academy, near Northwich, Rudheath Senior Academy, Northwich, Oak View Academy, Winsford, Grosvenor Park Academy, Acresfield Primary School and St Martin’s Academy, Chester, Weaverham Primary Academy, Weaverham, and Ellesmere Primary School, Shropshire.
Teachers have also recorded cooking tips, quick crafts, quizzes and music on the site, and there are also links to BBC Daily Bitesize and Oak National Academy which provide fun online learning and activities.
The children are encouraged to practice the new skill and aim to set personal bests, and the site allows them to post their own attempts at the challenges and have them published.
