While most runners spend months preparing for a single 26.2-mile race, local personal trainer Elliot Edwards is doubling the stakes.
This April, the Revolve Gym coach will take on the ultimate endurance test: running the Manchester Marathon as a personal feat before heading to the capital just seven days later to represent East Cheshire NHS Charity in the world-renowned London Marathon.
For Elliot, a professional fitness coach based in Cheshire, the decision to push his physical limits is fueled by a desire to give back to the community he works with daily.
While the Manchester race is a personal challenge, he has dedicated his London Marathon run to raising vital funds for the hospital services that support local families.
Elliot says:
"I want to run specifically for East Cheshire NHS Charity because of the care they provide for families I surround myself with day to day in Cheshire,"
"I believe everyone deserves access to the best care possible. I can help do my part by representing such a brilliant organisation and help make a difference."
The "Double Marathon" challenge, totaling 52.4 miles of competitive racing in one week, requires a grueling training regime, especially during the peak of the British winter.
Drawing on his expertise at Revolve, Elliot has been focusing on the ‘marginal gains’, meticulous nutrition, sleep, and recovery to ensure his body can handle the back-to-back load.
He explains:
"The biggest challenge is knowing that I'll be running two. This comes with juggling potential injuries and doing what I can to recover when they occur.
"But the biggest motivation is visualising myself crossing Tower Bridge in our charity colours. Every time I struggle to lace up my shoes in the cold, I think about race day and how it will all be worth it.
"I want to prove it's possible to achieve whatever you set your mind to if you're willing to commit and make sacrifices. I want to make a difference by doing what I do best which is to run."
The funds raised by Elliot will stay right here in the region, helping East Cheshire NHS Charity provide the "extras" that go above and beyond standard NHS funding, from life-saving equipment to enhanced facilities for patients and colleagues.
