Work begins on Monday, 22 February on a temporary green space in Northwich town centre on land that previously housed the outdoor market in Weaver Square.
This new recreational space will be landscaped with trees and shrubs and will contain public seating and an open-sided canopy, where small-scale events will take place, once Covid-19 restrictions allow.
Cabinet Member for Inclusive Growth, Economy and Regeneration, Councillor Richard Beacham said: “We are currently developing a long-term masterplan for Weaver Square with the support of our residents. However, in the meantime, we are committed to creating this temporary green space on land that is not currently used. This will improve the local environment for residents and local businesses within the town centre.
“Once safe to do so, this new public space will be somewhere for people to come together with friends and family, to meet with colleagues, or simply to just grab a drink or a bite to eat.”
Adam Gerrard, Northwich Business and Improvement District (BID) Project Manager said: “We are pleased to be part of this initiative with the Council and feel that the space will add another dimension to the town centre, in terms of delivering events and creating a focal point for socialising.
“We can’t wait for our businesses to be able to take advantage of the opportunities that this project will create and we’re really excited for it to come to fruition.”
The project is due to take approximately eight weeks to complete.
