Residents are invited to attend a special Mayor-Making Ceremony at Congleton Town Hall on Thursday 21st May at 7pm, as the town officially welcomes its new town mayor for the 2026–27 civic year.
As part of Congleton’s long-standing civic traditions, town councillors will elect one of their fellow councillors to assume the prestigious role during the annual ceremony, which is open to members of the public.
The evening will see the current Town Mayor, Councillor Robert Brittain, hand over the chain of office to his successor following a successful and memorable year representing the town.
During the formal proceedings, the newly elected town mayor will make their official pledge of office and introduce their mayoral party. A new Deputy Town Mayor will also be appointed for the civic year ahead.
The Mayor Making Ceremony is one of the highlights of Congleton’s civic calendar and offers residents a chance to witness local democracy and tradition in action.
Congleton Town Council would like to warmly welcome everyone who lives and works in the community to attend. Booking is not required — simply turn up on the evening and enjoy the proceedings.
