Feedback is still being encouraged for a new sustainable neighbourhood and mixed-use development at Weaver Square in Northwich, with this stage of the public engagement remaining open until 19th June 2026.
So far, over 250 pieces of feedback have been submitted through the engagement.
The proposals, which form a key priority within the Northwich Development Framework, have already generated valuable feedback from the local community. ION Developments and Cheshire West and Chester Council are keen to hear from even more residents before this round of engagement closes.
The vision sets out plans to deliver a new chapter for Northwich town centre through sustainable town-centre living, with around 200 high-quality homes, including affordable housing. The proposed development would comprise a mix of houses and apartments designed to support a diverse community, creating opportunities for younger people and families to live in the town centre.
Alongside new homes, the plans include improved public realm and flexible event spaces, creating welcoming areas for community use and activity. Supporting infrastructure, including the potential for a new bus hub, would improve accessibility and connectivity across the town centre.
The scheme forms part of a comprehensive regeneration strategy and covers Northwich Market, which will relocate to Barons Quay later this year, Weaver Square shopping precinct, Apple Market Place, the Information Centre and the Victoria and Market car parks. The proposals would replace buildings that are reaching the end of their lifespan while creating a new residential neighbourhood that enhances the character and vitality of the town centre.
The masterplan has been carefully developed to respect Northwich’s historic scale and architectural character, with a strong emphasis on walkable, human-scale streets and a clear sense of place.
The proposals are also expected to bring significant economic benefits. By increasing footfall and dwell time, the scheme would help strengthen the retail offer around established shopping areas, support existing businesses, attract new investment and boost the evening economy.
Earlier this month, members of the public were invited to attend a consultation event at Barons Quay, where they had the opportunity to learn more about the emerging proposals and speak directly with the project team. Information banners have also been displayed around the town to raise awareness of the consultation and encourage participation.
Gemma Davies, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Director of Economy and Housing, said:
“We would like to thank everyone who has already taken part in the engagement so far. We have received some great feedback already, and would like as much as possible during this stage of the engagement, to help shape the future of Weaver Square.
“This is the first step in delivering long-term regeneration and sustainable growth for this part of the town centre.”
Steve Parry, Managing Director of ION Developments, said:
“The level of interest so far has been really positive and community feedback is an important part of the process and will help us refine the emerging plans as they develop.”
This marks the beginning of an ongoing conversation with the community, and further engagement on more detailed proposals will take place before a formal planning application is submitted. All feedback received will be carefully considered in helping to shape a development that reflects Northwich’s heritage while meeting the needs of future generations.
