Buxton Opera House & Pavilion Arts Centre will be presenting a magical new production this December, made especially for audiences aged 3-8 years old, brought to you by the team who wowed audiences with Hare and Tortoise last year.
This year’s production is a new spin on the traditional tale of Rumpelstiltskin, written by Robin Kingsland.
Robin is a successful children’s stage and screenwriter who has written over a dozen plays for Nottingham Playhouse among others. Robin enjoys credits for television writing on some the best-known children’s programmes, including Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends and Engie Benjy (CITV), as well as Koala Brothers and Cartoon Critters (CBBC). Robin is also a children’s author having illustrated over thirty children’s books, including five titles for the ground-breaking Jets series. He is also an actor with screen credits that include Call The Midwife (BBC).
Leading the fun and family mischief will be Buxton Opera House's own Outreach and Engagement Producer Niamh Forster as ‘Libby’, a girl who can’t help exaggerating and finds herself tangled in a yarn of fibs, having to prove to a Prince that she can spin straw into gold – how will she get herself out of this one? Niamh brings previous stage credits from BIRDIE (Salford Arts Theatre), her role in a Manchester Fringe Award-winning play, and various castings in short films.
Returning to this year’s production after his role as ‘Tortoise’ in last year’s Hare and Tortoise is Adam Horvath, who will be playing the part of the Royal messenger, ‘Harold the Herald’. Adam has a multitude of stage and screen credits including Doctors (BBC) and the Derby Theatre production of Brassed Off.
Also joining in his debut at Buxton Opera House & Pavilion Arts Centre is Sam Glyde-Rees as the ‘Prince’. Sam is an alumnus of the SPRINGBOARD programme at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre with several film, TV and stage credits to his name.
This production may also feature a magical appearance from the mysterious ‘Rumpelstiltskin’ himself… but you’ll have to wait until December to find out what magical mischief he gets up to!
Rumpelstiltskin will be playing at the Pavilion Arts Centre between Saturday 14 December – Monday 23 December 2024.
The run of shows will also feature an Autism-friendly and Relaxed performance on Sunday 15 December at 10am, and a BSL-interpreted performance on Sunday 22 December at 10am.
