Going Christmas shopping? A bus ride will cost you no more than £2

Cheshire East Council is reminding residents not to forget that travelling by bus will continue to cost just £2 with participating operators, that’s nearly all the borough’s services.

Passengers should be aware that there has been no change to the bus fare cap and that the present fare ceiling of £2 (single) continues to apply through to December 2024, and return fares at £4.

So, if you are going Christmas shopping then why not take the bus and leave the car at home. 

The cheap to ride scheme was introduced by central government last winter to help families during the cost-of-living crisis, but also to encourage drivers to leave their car at home and reduce carbon emissions. The extension to the scheme was announced by the Prime Minister, in September.

The cap does not apply to users of the Go-too on-demand bus service, which operates in the Nantwich area of the borough, and which has its own fare pricing policy. Also excluded are users of the Hollinsheads services around Congleton, where fares have a flat rate of £1.50.

Encouraging more people to use our buses is a key element of the council’s sustainable travel strategy and it’s hoped that while services and operators are still recovering after the pandemic, the £2 fare will serve as an incentive to many people of all age groups to return to bus travel or take up bus travel for the first time.
