A father is preparing to run 105 miles through the Lake District this July to thank the hospital team that cared for his premature son.
Rob Massey is set to take on the circular trail race through the Lake District at the end of the month to raise vital funds for the hospital unit that cared for his premature son, Dexter.
Dexter was born eight weeks premature on 27th January, earlier this year, and required five weeks of specialist, round-the-clock care in Macclesfield Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).
Rob’s mission to complete the race is a direct ‘thank you’ to the team that supported his family during that uncertain time.
He said:
“Without the team in the unit we just don't know how we would have done it. They looked after the three of us throughout every tube feed, cannula and nappy change.
“Every staff member that supported us did so with an unparalleled level of kindness and authenticity that made us feel like a part of the furniture in the unit.
“Please donate generously to ensure future parents and premature babies can benefit from this same level of care and allow the fantastic nursing staff to continue to be even more fantastic."
The Lakeland 100 is widely considered the UK’s toughest long-distance trail race. With 6,300 meters of alpine elevation and a strict 40-hour time limit, the race is a brutal test of endurance.
